The Cause

"Swimming has given me my purpose, motivation, challenges and reward in life. With my diagnosis of neurological condition CIDP, it is time to harness swimming to raise awareness of the neurological conditions that affect me and thousands of Australian children and raise funds to build the resilience and strength they and their families need through their life changing journey." - Michael Klim

Ten children a day are diagnosed with neurological conditions or acquired brain injuries. They, and their families, will never be the same again. They face financial hardship through losing a breadwinner to be the 24/7 carer, social isolation, exhaustion, guilt, family breakdown and frustration with the health and disability systems.

Started by one of these parents in 1994, Brainwave Australia is the only charity to support these children and their families nationally to live the best lives they can through information and advice, networking with other parents, funding of therapy and equipment and family activities. Today, we support over 1,000 families across the country and have partnerships with all the children’s hospitals.
